ARRIVAL AT THE SEMINARIS HOTEL BAD HONNEF

It all began with a settlement in the Middle Ages, which developed through viticulture and agriculture. What has happened since then and how Bad Honnef has developed into the magnificent spa town it is today will be told in greater detail this year.

This path leads past the historical sights of the city – from the Catholic Parish Church of St. Johann Baptist to the old community center “Hontes” to the Göttchesplatz and the Schülgen Foundation.

Grafenwerth Island has been part of Bad Honnef for about 100 years. With the Siebengebirge mountains in the background, it has a picturesque backdrop and from here you can see the Rhine and the island of Nonnenwerth.

If you take the rack railroad up the Drachenfels, you should get off halfway at Schloss Drachenburg – yes, the castle from “Bares für Rares”. On a good day, you can see as far as Cologne Cathedral from the Gründerzeit building, as well as the Siebengebirgen Nature Park.

For this museum, a classicist train station building has been merged with a new building. International fine art, classical concerts and a summer chamber music festival are presented on the four exhibition levels.

This vineyard under the Drachenfels originated as a medieval estate in the heart of Rhöndorf, a district of Bad Honnef. With the Pinot Blanc Unkler Sonnenberg and the Pinot Noir Terrassen, two real top wines are grown here.

Willy Brandt lived in Unkel from 1979 to 1992. The Willy Brandt Forum commemorates the well-known politician, former German Chancellor and Nobel Peace Prize winner. Among other things, his study from the house in Unkel, where he last lived, can be seen.

The Broel family has been growing wine in Bad Honnef since the middle of the 19th century. Today, their wine cellar is considered the largest in the Siebengebirge. An area of 2.5 hectares on the Drachenfels is cultivated – exclusively with white wines.

The residence where Konrad Adenauer lived until his death became a memorial. The federal government established a foundation to preserve the memory of Adenauer. Among other things, it displays a permanent exhibition and carries out historical-political educational work.

In the center of the historic spa district of Bad Honnef is the Kurhaus. In the 20th century it developed into the cultural center of the town – concerts were given here, theater performances and festivals took place.
